Our environmental commitment

Bugs for Bugs have always had an unwavering commitment to the environment. Our business model has always been based on helping growers and backyard gardeners manage pests in the most environmentally sustainable way.

In 2020, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimated global agricultural pesticide usage to be 2.7 million tonnes, a figure that has increased significantly over recent decades. For over 40 years, we’ve worked with growers across various agricultural industries, both in Australia and abroad, to reduce their reliance on synthetic chemicals and help reduce this high global figure. The reduction of synthetic agricultural pesticides has the potential to have an immensely positive impact on the environment, improving plant and animal biodiversity, waterways, and soils.

We’re continuously looking at various ways of improving our production systems to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and minimise wastage. We have invested in extensive solar panel systems at all our sites, to reduce our use of non-renewable energy and to improve our long-term sustainability. We are also moving towards plastic free packaging, with the majority of our packing coming from natural and recycled materials.

Disclaimer:

While we make every effort to supply you with beneficial insects and mites to help improve your pest management, and to reduce the need for pesticides, we cannot guarantee the outcome in every situation.  Our biocontrol agents do feed readily on the species that we have specified in our tech sheets and on our website.  However, there are many variables including accurate pest identification, plant species, pest density, numbers of beneficials released, environmental conditions and history of pesticide usage that influence the outcomes.  We will always do our best to help you achieve a positive outcome but we simply cannot guarantee that your problem will be solved to your satisfaction.  Because every situation is unique we are constantly learning about how best to use our good bugs.  We appreciate any feedback from your experience.
