A sturdy plastic bucket trap made up of five components:
- Lure basket (cage)
- Trap funnel
- Trap base (bucket)
- Wire hanger
- Easy to set up (see instructions here)
- Suitable for use in a wide range of crops
This trap is ideal for use with pheromone lures to monitor pests such as Heliothis (Helicoverpa spp.) and fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda).
A Bio-Trap DDVP (Dichlorvos) cube can be used with the bucket trap to provide quick and effective knockdown of insects as they enter the trap. DDVP is considered the most effective insecticide for use in monitoring traps as it remains effective for up to 3 months with a rapid knock down. These DDVP cubes are available in packs of 10 as an optional extra when you purchase your bucket trap (see drop-down menu above).
It is strongly recommended to use DDVP cubes when monitoring fall armyworm. At this early stage in the incursion of this exotic pest it is important to identify fall armyworm moths in the trap. A quick kill helps keep moths in tact for identification. Use of DDVP cubes with a fall armyworm pheromone lure is approved by the APVMA under permit PER89169. Traps must be labelled as per the instructions in this permit.
